well well ……..to start.
this week was really good. we did a lot. we started off the week by going after a few references that we received from an english class that elder peacock has been giving in this area. by the way elder peacock is alan or coach peacocks nephew. ha-ha it’s pretty cool. when i met him i told him were i was from and he told me that his uncle lived in vernal. so i asked him who it was and he told me. the world is pretty small. i told him that i got to know coach peacock since i was in 9th grade.
so we were working with these references and it wasn’t going too well. we were just walking. some of the addresses were fake. a lot of the times the people weren’t at home and it was kind of frustrating. other times we could not find the road. one time when we were a little bit lost we saw a teenaged girl walking on the street so we asked her for help. we ended up getting her address and teaching her and her whole family. it turned out that her parents are married already, so that is a bonus! they didn´t go to church yet so we will keep working with them.
another time we were looking for another house of a man named marcos. but we couldn’t find it. it was on thursday. we almost gave up. so we knocked on a door and we met wenderson. he told us that he didn’t know marcos. but from the first moment he was very interested. he asked us what we did and if we could teach him so that he could know the church. on the first contact he asked us if he could go to church. he said that he always wanted to do a visit but thought that only members could enter. so we told him that he could and he got really happy. he told us that he would invite all of his friends to go too. so we marked to teach him on friday. when we went there he was ready. we started to to teach him and come to find out he had already heard about the church and about Joseph Smith. he said that he already believed that he was a prophet. he said that he had already visited all the other churches that he knew and didn’t like any one of them. but he said that he wanted to know our church. it was really exciting to hear him say all of this. he is really good. he is 16 years old and i have never seen a young man so prepared to receive the the gospel. at the end of the first lesson we explained the book of Mormon and he desired one so bad that he wanted to buy it from us. but we just gave it to him and he was really happy!!
sunday he went to church. so we are going to work with him this week to baptize him. he asked me for a doctrine and convenant at church, so i am going to see if i can get him one.
well, we had pretty much given up on marcos. but on saturday night we decided to try and find his house and after a while we found it. he had a lot of doubts about the church, we left thinking that he wouldn’t progress. but then guess who was at church as well yesterday. yes he went! it was cool he went alone. he is 28.
so this week should be really good. we are excited. i think we have our first personal interviews with President Souza this week. that will be intense. he wants to see our study journal and a few other things. he seems to be a bit more into things. ha-ha!
here in novo metropole, there are a lot of pigs that walk on the road stray. it is really funny and they are huge. they act like they own the place! novo metropole isn’t Fortaleza! i have definitely left the city!!!! it is pretty. there is a huge mountain here.
well i love all you. i know that this gospel is true. i know that the atonement is really. it is the power that keeps us on the right path as we strive hard to do what is right. i know that the book of Mormon is true. i know that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that President Monson is! i love this opportunity that i have to serve. it is awesome! keep on a fighting alright. its worth it!!
Love Elder T. Larsen
